Snow Daze
We have had quite the week, starting with the big storm that kept all of us home on Tuesday. Can you find Whitey in the snowfall?
Today, we went out to get the H1N1 vaccinations for the girls and I could not open my door to the 4Runner. Upon closer review of systems, I deduced that someone slid on the icy road, hit the car, then sped off without a word. I got to meet Officer Baker with the LAPD.
We got the unharmed Prius out, got the vaccinations and are toasty at home. Now to pound the wheel well so that I can get into the vehicle again.
Argh.

We're on Strike
We have had another fun weekend of cooking, eating and playing games.
Yesterday Xian made Meatloaf all by herself! This was the first time she ever tasted meatloaf and all three girls enjoyed it.
Today was the Pancake Breakfast at the Possy Shack. A great crowd attended that included Mom/Gram, BobBie, and then Mason joined us at the tail end.
Then the crowd moved to the living room to play the Wii. Gram beat the pants off of BobBie at bowling. She got a STRIKE on her first throw!

Reservior Dog
Wait! She's a Reservation Dog! Meet Ms Mika. We found her at Irma's at Two Grey Hills two days after she was dropped off in the area. The girls fell in love with her. She is sweet, gentle, and not a yapper.
Today, we met up with Irma and her sister at Cuba to make the transfer, then drove back through on Highway 126, cutting off 31 miles and 15 minutes from our trip. What a glorious day to be in the Mountains of New Mexico. The little mutt is a good traveler.

Discovery Weekend
It had been a week since we had gone on a Road Trip. So, we gathered up Mom and headed North, though Coyote and Regina. Got to see the Murphys.
It is always fun to be with the cousins. Trish and Kat encouraged the girls and me to go to the finale of the Story Telling Festival. We go to see Waddie Mitchell and Willy Claflin.
Sunday we got to Gordy and Michele. They went to China and helped to pave the way for me to adopt my precious angels.
then we went down to Two Grey Hills and got to see two guys buy two Two Grey Hills Rugs.
The foliage was really fabulous. Somehow my camera stayed in the car on the Res.
The new tarantula is a treasure.

Quaking
Mom and I decided to take a run to the Jemez this morning. It was a beautiful day and we went for a short hike on the Coyote Pass trail. Some nice person left a walking stick at the entrance for Mom.

Everything was green and healthy
The aspens were at many different stages, but were more yellow than in my pictures. We loved this short juniper.
Then we went on a van ride through part of the Valle Calderas, then on to Jemez Springs for a lunch at the Laughing Lizard, where we could hardly hear ourselves due to the bike run that was going through and hanging around town. Stopped to make a movie of the quaking aspens, got to have a bike go by.

Let There be Peace, or a Piece
Mom was always trying to make us happy. One thing that she did was to try to please everyone when it came to eating German Chocolate Cake. I was telling the girls about how she made it, then Xin and I decided to give it a go.
So here it is. 1/4 coconut and nuts; 1/4 coconut; 1/4 nuts; and 1/4 no nuts, no coconut.
I know that I was the no nuts no coconut, but who were the other picky ones?
This is one of the first summers that Mom did not have her hills of squash. or did she???

Back on the Farm
We had a harvest fest that included our bumper crop of corn.
It was sweet. now we know that we have to plant more next year!
We had a cookout and invited the little children from next door. Lots of food was eaten, but only a selected few got corn.

The TKO
We got back from a day with Dr. Hess in ABQ. What a gentle guy. Mei's teeth are back in place and being held together with wire and glue. She has been so brave and calm throughout the whole ordeal...Emergency room (should have called the dentist last night and taken her to ABQ immediately, but I am glad she got checked out), sleeping with saggy teeth, then over an hour with her teeth being worked on.
She does have evidence of the flight to the sidewalk on her face/nose arms and foot.
She is doing great, and has a pass to watch a movie this afternoon.

Indian Market
The X Girls and I went to Indian Market this morning and the winner is:

We saw Mr. Chitto

And a winner who makes winning quilts.

The work was very beautiful. I only saw one thing that I both liked and could afford. There was lots that was way out of my range . Lots, too that was really over the top. Like a bracelet that could also be used for a leg iron. We ate at the Burrito Factory with Dr. Betsy, who did spend some money.

The Cake Boss better get out of town
Because the Cake B**** and her assistant have completed another unbelievable masterpiece!
In honor of our friends Franny and XueXia's return from England, we created an applesauce cake (well-apple butter since we didn't have applesauce) symbolizing the earth on which we stand; green buttercream frosting-the grass upon the earth; and homemade marshmallow, rolled in cocoa and powdered sugar, the stones with which is symbolized something Druid.

The Cousins
Montana Madness
Fire in The Hole! Let's start the party with a BANG!
We were in Great Falls for the 4th. Ms S was in the huge (complete with hearses at the end) parade with the Lewis and Clark Group.

We got to go to Glacier NP and see a spectacular show of Bear Grass.

After watching the Cake Boss, I made a special New Mexican meal complete with a Sombrero Cake. (Decorated beautifully by the girls)

Parking lot
The 4Runner is now on the parking pad in the back back yard! The county finished the curbcut this week, so we could get the vehicle into the yard. We had to dig out the piled up asphalt that they had scraped up to the gates, but we got it in!
To celebrate, we went downtown, got Grammie and went to see Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas
Xian took off with a friend, while Xin and Mei danced and Mom and I listened.
We will be doing a Pancake Breakfast at the Possy Shack tomorrow...come on over

Back on the Farm
there are at least three apricots that did not get their little heads frozen! The peach tree has a bunch of baby peaches and there are a few apples hanging on. The new rhubarbs have taken hold.
and the raspberries look very happy. We have gotten lots of rain in May.
Two dead gophers have been found and disposed of. Now to keep weeds down.

The Surg
Mom had a good evening, yesterday. She got another nap after I took her to my house, then she ate good-comfort food Cheesy Farm Noodles and Key Lime Pie.
She got up before 5 to go to the WC-I know because I up getting ready to take X to the bus to San Diego.
Mom is going to get her hair done, as usual, then go home and get back on schedule.

Art Opening
Ms Mei's Paper Mache' Penguin will be displayed in the upstairs gallery at Mesa Public Library. The opening is March 11 and the show goes through March 25th. She said that she was the only one in her class that will have her art displayed.
I know that I can hardly wait to see the piece!

Can't stand the Heat?
I am so out of the kitchen.
I got up and made the girls the week supply of buttermilk/1/2 whole wheat pancakes, then put the lotus seeds on to soak.
I went to Martha to get a recipe for Butternut squash/lotus seed soup.

Then Xian and I made Calzones. Spinach and 4 cheese (ricotta, parmesan, romano, and mozarella) for me, and spinach, 4 cheese and pepperoni for the girls. These will go to work/school with us.

By now it is about lunchtime and what do you need for lunch? Crackers to go with the soup.
This time I used Parmesan and Romano, and 1% milk, which must have more fat than fat free 1/2 and 1/2.
Maybe I should get dressed.
It finally loaded the pix

Cracker
We had to try out the recipe on Chuck's blog. I changed it to Romano Cream Crackers since we are out of Parmesan. I used salted butter then, cut out the salt from the recipe. I rolled them thin and cut them up before I baked them. the first were free style cutting, the second were with an old biscuit/cookie cutter. The second was baked on a pan that promotes crispness.
We all agree that they are excellent, no matter what the shape.
I think that these two will enjoy them. Gonzo sure does!
